Code it the Google Way

        Google never seems to just be satisfied with the status quo, and when they run out of fields to compete in they create their own! Google’s new “Go” programming language is one of their newest ventures, a language which is an amalgamation of Python and C++.

The Go language, in development since September 2007, has been unveiled by Google along with the release of a free and open source compiler. In fact, Google has released both a stand-along compiler implementation with cryptic names such as 6g (amd64 compiler), 8g (x86 compiler), and 5g (ARM compiler) and one which is a front-end for GCC (gccgo).

Born out of frustration with existing system languages, Go attempts to bring something new to the table, and mix the ease of dynamically typed and interpreted languages with the efficiency of compiled languages.

So why make a new programming language?

Google believes that the current languages have run their course. The prominent languages in use today (C/C++, Java, C#) are all based around a similar syntax, and updating and adding new features in these language consists of piling on libraries, with little or no upgrade to the core of the language itself. What Google intends to do requires more than just the addition of a new library.

The landscape of computing has changed a lot since C, and as Google notes “Computers are enormously quicker but software development is not faster.” Languages have had to morph quite a bit to take on support concepts such as parallel processing, and garbage collection.

Quick Overview

Go, on the other hand has been designed by Google from the ground up as “a concurrent, garbage-collected language with fast compilation”.

In order to not alienate the majority of developers though, its syntax is quite similar to C, and would not take much time for a developer to catch on to.

Go has accomplished some impressive feats. The language is designed to compile fast and Go can compile a “large” program in a few seconds on a single computer. It is designed to simplify the creation of application which can better utilize today’s multi-core processors. The language supports concurrent execution andcommunication between concurrent processes natively, and is fully-garbage collected.

Goroutines are Google’s answer to threading in Go, and any function call which is preceded by the go statement runs in a different goroutine concurrently. A feature called channels allows for easy communication and synchronization between such routines.

Unlike other object oriented languages, Go has a much “simplified” type structure, which disallows sub-classing! Go offers a different flavour of object oriented programming using interfaces, which Google believes will simplify use.

By using interfaces, explicit type hierarchies need not be defined, instead, a type will satisfy all interfaces which are subsets of its methods. The relationships between types and interfaces need not be defined explicity! This can have some interesting implications as people can add interfaces to connect unrelated types even later in the development of an application.

Go seems inspired by Python as well. Python has been one of Google’s favoured languages and was the sole language supported on Google’s AppEngine when it launched. Like Python, Go supports “slices”, which allow you to refer to parts of arrays using a simple syntax. Thus for an array “a” with 100 elements, a[23,42] will result in an array with elements 23 through 42 of a. Go also tracks the length of arrays internally, further simplifying array usage. Additionally, Maps in Go allow you to create “arrays” with custom index types, and are a native feature of the language.

Conclusion

One consistent point in the features of Go is that it is better to have one excellent implementation of commonly used features such as garbage collection, strings, maps etc. rather than have them rethought and re-implemented in each program.

As nearly all Google products, Go is “beta” and not yet suitable for production use. By releasing it early Google hopes to garner a community around it and hopes that enough people will be interested in it to justify continued development.

How to Recover Important Data after your System is Crashed

     Suppose your computer commits suicide by inviting the latest virus and you are not able to get it back up and running. As a last resort you decide to backup your important documents, photos that you took of your girl friend and the ASCII text file containing your passwords. Today I will show how to do this very easily.

Create a System Rescue CD

Use an uninfected computer and download the System Rescue CD ISO file (latest version) from sysresccd.org. Now burn this ISO to a blank CD.

Start the rescue

After the ISO is written to CD, take it out, pop the CD into the drive of the computer that’s busted. Set the BIOS to boot through the CD first, hard disk next. And allow it to reboot.

You should see this beautiful System Rescue startup screen. Type these options after the boot: prompt and press ENTER.

The docache option allows you to remove the System Rescue CD after it boots up, so you can enter another blank CD/DVD and take backups.

The dostartx option starts GUI automatically.

The dodhcp opiton automatically configures the network and connects you automatically to the Internet after booting.

Load the appropriate keymap when prompted (or just select the default US keymap).

It should start GUI automatically. In case it doesn’t, type startx at the command line and press ENTER.

Your desktop should have a terminal with a yellow background. We need to mount the partition and then do the backup.

Your Windows partition will most likely be located in /mnt/sda1 or /mnt/sda2. To check the partitions, run this:

fdisk -l /dev/sda

It should show you the partition names.

Then, to mount partition 1, run this:

ntfs-3g /mnt/sda1 /mnt/windows

If it mounts correctly, you should be able to see the files in your C:\ directory when you type:

ls -al /mnt/windows

Backing up your data to a CD/DVD

Now, to begin backing up your data, type this:

xfburn

The Xfburn program will show you a list of your partitions. Browse to the Windows partition(s) using the Filesystem menu option on the top-left and select all the files you need. Click on New Data Composition. Insert a blank CD or DVD and allow to burn all your data to the CD/DVD.

Backing up your data to a remote location

This is easier if you love using the command line. First, make sure the network is up by pinging to google.com

ping google.com

If it throws up an error, you have to run this to configure your network interface:

net-setup eth0

If you want to transfer the files in the directory C:\work to your remote server myremoteserver.com as user hungryhackers

The directory C:\work would be located in /mnt/windows/work. This command will transfer the directory:

scp -r /mnt/windows/work hungryhackers@myremoteserver.com

Enter the password for user hungryhackers and the file transfer will begin.

How to download torrents very quickly(no Seeders)

 

         How many of the times you downloaded your favorite torrent,only find that there is very minimum seeders,or possibly dead ! How many times have you got stuck at 99.9% ?? or 20% whatever it may be !!
Worry no more.Here is a solution to all of that

Here is what you do :

( I would advice for all the torrent users before downloading a torrent file , use the below method to see how many trackers are there and , i would also advice to use this method , as there is a increase in speed …. since seeders are more )
First you find the torrent you want say for eg in my case Ubuntu-7.10-(Gutsy) ** ” Big Cough ” ** [ Damn the weather ]

I went to public torrent tracer.. and found that torrent… now is the important part

Step 1
Download your torrent file (*.torrent) and dont start the torrent now ,just download the file.
Step 2
Go to http://btReAnnounceR.net
Step 3
Upload the *.torrent you downloaded just now in it and Hit Upload

Step 4
Now you will see all the related trackers for that torrent file other than the source of your torrent file you downloaded (REMEMBER:If there isn’t any other source then its worthless adding the same tracker)
Step 5
Select the trackers of your wish and Hit ReAnnounce (Its waste to add the same tracker from the same site,for eg : vip.thepiratebay.com ,public.thepiratebay.com, etc,since all these trackers from the same domain track the same file.)

Step 6
Now it will present with ReAnnounced Torrent File , Download it and load it into your Download Client…
Thats it… you have added all or some trackers other than the original tracker assoicated with the *.torrent file you downloaded initially
Now you will never Dry up of Seeders…
The same thing goes to dead torrents …
You stuck with some level in your torrent download .. just upload the torrent and download the reannounced torrent and load it again onto your client in which u are downloading the torrent and remember to point to the already available downloading file instead of creating a new one ….
Whats the Advantage ?
1.Since you add Trackers in the First place itself ( for who start the torrent intially by this method ) they will have great seeders
2.Chances of getting stuck at xx.xx % is very less
3.Improved speed
4.Older torrents / Dead Torrens can be Revived … ( to some extent atleast , depends again on trackers , seeders… )
5.Since multiple Trackers are involved , tracker related problems are nearly solved…

Whats the Disadvantage :
1.This works very poorly on private torrents … as the tracker are within the private trackers … so very limited of external trackers…
2.Not all torrents have so much of other trackers … so you should be lucky in those cases.

3. Drop the version string in your Meta Tags

Another solution involves a plugin that sets up a secondary new version.

4. Stay Updated

5. Take regular backups of your site and Database

6. Use SSH/Shell Access instead of FTP

If someone gets a hold of your FTP login information (which is usually not encrypted and easy to get), they can manipulate your files and add spam to your site without you even knowing about it! Using SSH, everything is encrypted including the transfer of files, etc.

7. Stop worrying about your wp-config.php file

Keep your database username and password Safe by adding the following to the .htaccess file at the top level of your WordPress install:

8. Block WP- folders from the Search Engines

There is no need to have all of your filesWordPress files indexed by Google, so it’s best to block them in your robots.txt file. Add the following line to your list

9. Block access to WP-Admin folder using .htaccess

There is an article written Reuben that talks about how you can protect your WordPress admin folder by allowing access to it from a defined set of IP addresses. Everything else will bring up a Forbidden error message. So if you only access your blog from one or two places routinely, it’s worth implementing. Also, you’re supposed to create a new .htaccess file inside your wp-admin folder, not replace the one at the root of your blog

10. Don’t Use Default Passwords

Are you still logging into your wp-admin page with the same default password that was emailed to you? If so, CHANGE IT! You can follow the instructions given in the article “Hack Proof Password” posted by us earlier to imrove the strength of your password.

11. Change database table prefix

The default prefix used by WordPress is “wp”. You can easily change the prefix to other terms that are difficult to guess using the WP-Security-Scan. More detail on this plugin below.

12. Don’t use (or better yet, remove) the default “admin” username

When you install WordPress, it automatically generates a user with Administrator-level permissions called admin. It is strongly recommended that you do not use this username to make it harder for the hacker to guess your username and password via Brute force attacks. Even if you downgrade its permission role, it’s still a better idea just to remove this user altogether.
